Female Gastro Gastroenterologists
According to recent statistics, women make up roughly 50% of medical school students and 40% to 50% of third-year internal medicine residents.Despite the high proportion of female medical students, the proportion of female gastroenterology (GI) fellows has stayed constant at 25–30% over the past few years. Furthermore, only 13% of the nation's 13,000 gastroenterologists are female.
Female patients prefer to see female gastroenterologists, according to published and anecdotal data. In a prospective survey of more than 1,000 patients. discovered that females preferred female gastroenterologists and female colonoscopists for office visits. There must be an effort made to train more female gastroenterologists in order to address this need.

We must begin at the top if we want to fully address the apparent gender inequalities in GI. Prioritizing encouraging greater equity in GI leadership roles and addressing the gender gap of incoming GI fellows should be top priorities for our leadership, as embodied by the national societies.
