Pediatric Gastroenterology & Hepatology is a rapidly upcoming branch. As children is growing so are the organs within them. They present with problems different than adults which may be related to their developmental abnormalities, enzyme deficiencies, metabolic changes, gradual introduction of food, increased susceptibility to infections/ immunodeficiency. As the medical science is progressing positively, so are the chances of survival of kids requiring liver transplant. A pre-transplant evaluation and post-transplant care is vital in those kids. Sometimes children require extensive nutritional support and rehabilitation in cases with food allergies and other conditions (eg. celiac disease, cow’s milk protein allergy, lactose intolerance, chronic pancreatitis, chronic diarrhea, lymphangiectasia etc).
Children with chronic liver disease and metabolic diseases need special nutritional support to avoid further damage to their liver and body. Certain conditions require endoscopic intervention which can be very overwhelming for the parents and child. To provide a wholesome treatment and care of pediatric patients we have a Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology
